CUSTOMER STORY
Specsavers and Enactor modernise retail with
API-driven solutions
Specsavers has long been celebrated for its customer-centric approach and innovative vision, solidifying its position as a forward-thinking Retailer in the optical industry. Building on this legacy, Specsavers continues to push boundaries through its partnership with Enactor, leveraging Next-Generation technology to enhance operations and elevate customer experiences.
A fruitful partnership
The collaboration between Enactor and Specsavers began with the successful implementation of Enactor’s Point of Sale (POS) software at the Ennis store in the Republic of Ireland. This marked a significant milestone in Specsavers’ journey towards modernising its retail operations. By adopting Enactor’s advanced Basket Engine and API-driven architecture, Specsavers set the stage for a seamless and efficient customer experience, reflecting their commitment to operational excellence and Next-Gen retail tech.
Director of Specsavers Ennis, previously shared his positive experience:
We are thrilled to be recognised by Gartner® as a Representative Vendor in the 2024 Market Guide
for Unified Commerce Platforms. We believe this acknowledgement underscores our dedication to delivering Next-Generation solutions that enable Retailers to drive growth, enhance customer experiences, and stay ahead of the curve in an ever-evolving industry.

Scaling success across regions
Building on this early success, Enactor is now rolling out its technology to 59 Specsavers stores across the Republic of Ireland before Christmas, with 9 additional stores joining by early January. Beyond Ireland, the Netherlands rollout is also underway, with 4 stores already live and the remaining stores slated to transition from early 2025 onwards.
The rollout has been exceptional so far, underscoring both the effectiveness of Enactor’s solutions and Specsavers’ dedication to operational transformation.
A unique architecture for personalised service
Unlike standard POS engines, Specsavers operates a unique system tailored to meet the specific needs of its customers. The process begins with opticians or optometrists capturing precise eye measurements and customers selecting their preferred glasses, lenses, and coatings. These details are entered into a specialised in-house system that pushes the information to Enactor’s Estate Manager via an API.
From there, Enactor’s POS grabs the customer’s remote basket, almost instantaneously. This architecture enables the store to tender transactions efficiently while accommodating the unique requirements of each customer. This seamless integration demonstrates the power of Enactor’s technology and its capacity to deliver tailored solutions for complex retail environments.
Built with collaboration and expertise
Enactor’s integration with Specsavers was developed in collaboration with BJSS, a trusted partner that played a critical role in bringing this vision to life. The integration highlights Enactor’s strengths in leveraging APIs and working closely with partners to deliver exceptional results.
What’s ahead for Specsavers and Enactor?
Specsavers’ adoption of Enactor’s innovative solutions reflects their forward-thinking approach and unwavering commitment to enhancing customer experiences. By combining advanced technology with a deep understanding of their customers’ needs, Specsavers is setting new benchmarks in the optical industry.
Enactor is proud to support Specsavers in this transformative journey and looks forward to continuing the rollout, ensuring every Specsavers store is equipped to deliver fast, personalised, and efficient service. Together, Enactor and Specsavers are not just implementing a POS system but are shaping the future of retail technology.
