Mountain Warehouse International Expansion Case Study
Mountain Warehouse are one of the UK high street success stories. Started in 1997 by current CEO Mark Neale, Mountain Warehouse now boasts more than 380 stores across the globe from Vancouver on the West Coast of Canada, to Auckland in New Zealand as well as across many parts of Europe.
Running such a large, geographically diverse, retail estate that can remain nimble and react quickly to changing trends and consumer behaviour could easily be quite challenging.
The Requirement
As a growing dynamic retailer, Mountain Warehouse needed a partner who could deliver advanced retail functionality fast, and one that had a passionate, can-do culture that matched that of Mountain Warehouse’s culture and attitude.
Not only that, they wanted the ability for their highly capable IT team to develop retail applications themselves, using a scalable and flexible platform.
On top of that, they needed to open new stores in Canada within a very short timeframe.
Rising to the challenge!
Enactor and the Mountain Warehouse team worked hand in hand to ensure the stores were trading within 6 weeks. Since then, the solution has expanded into all 380 stores globally and into the groups associated retail facias Zakti and Neon Sheep.
Mountain Warehouse have a strong IT team, developing core retail applications themselves from their Head Office in Central London. The configuration and development power in the microservices and toolkit was incredibly attractive as it let Mountain Warehouse develop functionality themselves, while at the same time taking advantage of a regular product roadmap from Enactor.
Together Enactor and Mountain Warehouse have delivered a number of key features which underpins their continuing success.
Extended Aisle Ordering – Mobile POS based ordering, a single process that supports home delivery ordering for the Mountain Warehouse and Neon sheep brands.
POS Based Loyalty Sign-up – Lets the consumer sign up to loyalty at the POS on a simple tablet, driving customer email acquisition.
