Mountain Warehouse

Case Study

Mountain Warehouse is a successful and growing sports and outdoor wear retailer that has been developing outdoor clothing and equipment for all the family since 1997. Today the company has stores throughout the UK, and ambitions to continue its growth in the UK and North America.

The Challenge

As a “can do” organisation Mountain Warehouse has a small but strong IT team. After many years running an internal POS application, the company needed more than just a technology re-fresh, but instead a new store system that would deliver current requirements but also be a platform to enable future change. Following a selection process Enactor was chosen. The first challenge was to respond quickly to an urgent requirement to implement POS in a brand new store in Canada with only 4 weeks notice.

The Solution

With close cooperation between the teams at Mountain Warehouse and Enactor, configuration, integration, testing and deployment was fast-tracked. The teams leveraged Enactor’s integration design tool and technologies, and rapidly designed and implemented a series of interfaces using XML, XSLT transforms and Web services. In parallel Enactor product specialists and testers worked on application and system configuration so that a deployable version of the software could be delivered to Mountain Warehouse on time.

The combination of Enactor’s rich pre-packaged function and development toolkit helps Mountain Warehouse’s IT team to be responsive, without starting from scratch each time the business needs something. When new functions like clientelling, or support for mobile devices are required, the team can turn first to the configurable and platform independent Enactor retail applications. When customisations are required the team can utilise the toolkit to build new function rapidly, giving them control over their destiny and the capability to support future requirements.
